Abstract
The objectives of this study were: (1) to get basic data about status of oral health
programs in public health centers, and (2) identify key factors that affect the activity of
oral health programs.
A 7-item questionnaire was used to collect status of oral health programs in public
health centers. The questionnaire was mailed to 250 public health dentists in public
health centers and sub-health centers selected using simple random sampling. The
returned 195 questionnaires were analyzed.
The obtained results were as follows :
1. Most public health dentists (72.8%) thought that oral hygienists were positive to oral
health programs.
2. Sixty-one percent of responded public health dentists reported that directors of
public health center had no interests to oral health programs.
3. A majority of responded public health dentists (75%) were performing oral health
programs.
4. Fifty-four percent of respondents had fluoride mouth rinse programs, fifty-five of
them had sealant programs, forty-seven had oral health education programs, and
thirty-six periodic oral examination programs.
5. It is recommended that health center directors' attitude about oral health programs
should be improved.
